Is Byrne Rock your real name?
Yep. Byrne Rock isn’t a stage name or DJ moniker… it’s my real name. Sometimes the universe (and your parents) give you a career path without even knowing it.
How do you say that?
Byrne is pronounced ‘Burn’ as in the last name of David Byrne from Talking Heads.
Were your parents hippies?
They weren’t, but the late 60s did produce some great music. Byrne is a common Irish surname and a family name on my mother’s side.
How did you become a DJ?
The first time I performed on stage I was 6 years old, telling jokes to entertain an annual student talent show at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston as a sidekick to my dad. I haven’t looked back since, spending years as a performing musician in and around Austin, TX before becoming a full time DJ & business owner.
I also spent 5 years managing a team of audio engineers for the largest music branding company in North America, Mood Media. Experience managing in a corporate environment gave me tools to grow Byrne Rock Mobile DJ Service into a team of 7 DJs with a focus on creating memorable experiences through top-shelf customer service.
Do you have a nickname?
People have called me all sorts of interesting names through the years. Bernie, Mr. Byrnes, Byrne-ski. You name it, I’ve probably heard it. You can call me anything you want, just be sure to call me whenever it’s time to party!
